Planting with Aquascape Heavy Duty Aquatic Planters is a reliable and efficient method for establishing thriving aquatic plants in your pond. These flexible, breathable planters promote healthy root development and help prevent soil loss into the water. For best results, always use Aquascape Pond Plant Potting Media and Aquascape Once-a-Year Plant Fertilizer to ensure strong, season-long plant growth.
Marginal plants like iris, pickerel, or taro should be planted by first adding a few inches of Aquascape Pond Plant Potting Media to the bottom of the planter. Sprinkle in Aquascape Once-a-Year Plant Fertilizer, then position the plant just above the fertilizer layer. Fill around the plant with more potting media until the crown is level with the surface. Finish with a layer of gravel and place the planter so the crown sits just above the water surface (0–6" / 0–15 cm deep).
Hardy water lilies should be planted by adding a base layer of Aquascape Pond Plant Potting Media, then applying Aquascape Once-a-Year Plant Fertilizer evenly across the surface. Position the rhizome on one side of the planter at a 45-degree angle with the growing tip slightly above the media. Fill the planter with more media to secure the rhizome and top with gravel. Submerge the planter 6–18" (15–45 cm) below the water surface.
Tropical water lilies follow a similar process. Start with a few inches of Aquascape Pond Plant Potting Media, then apply Aquascape Once-a-Year Plant Fertilizer. Place the bulb upright in the center and fill the rest of the planter with media. Top with gravel and place the planter 12–24" (30–60 cm) deep in water.
