Decorative Fountain Paint Touch-Up Process
These instructions apply to Aquascape fiber-resin products, including Stacked Slate Urns, Walls, and Spheres.
Materials required
- Outdoor/exterior latex-based paint in the appropriate color
- Coarse, all-purpose paintbrush
- Foam brush for recessed or difficult-to-reach areas
- Cleaning supplies for removing sludge, mineral buildup, and debris
- Fountain color tile, if available, for paint matching
Step-by-step instructions
- Turn off and empty the fountain.
Disconnect power to the pump and remove the water. The surface must remain dry throughout painting and curing. - Select the correct paint.
Use only outdoor/exterior latex-based paint. Take the fountain’s color tile to a local paint retailer for color matching. If no tile is available, contact Aquascape Customer Care at emails@aquacapeinc.com - Clean the surface thoroughly.
Remove sludge, hard-water deposits, dirt, and small debris. Paint applied over buildup may adhere poorly or produce an uneven finish. Avoid harsh cleaning products; vinegar with equal parts of water and a soft-bristled brush are best. - Allow the fountain to dry completely.
Check textured joints, crevices, and recessed areas for trapped moisture before proceeding. - Apply the paint.
Use a coarse, all-purpose paintbrush and work from side to side. Apply the paint evenly, feathering the edges into the surrounding finish when repairing a small chip or faded area. - Paint recessed areas.
Use a foam brush to work paint into grooves, crevices, and other areas that cannot be reached adequately with the coarse brush. Avoid leaving pooled paint in low spots. - Inspect after 3–4 hours.
Once the first application has dried for 3–4 hours, check for missed spots, thin coverage, and visible edges. Touch up those areas as necessary. - Allow the final paint application to dry for 24 hours.
Keep the fountain empty and out of service for at least 24 hours after the final touch-up. Protect it from water, rain, and overspray during this period. - Return the fountain to service.
Once the paint is fully dry, refill the fountain, reconnect the pump, and inspect the repaired area while the water is circulating.
Recommended Color
Behr 'Conifer'
Because weathering can alter the existing finish, color matching with a tile is preferable when available. Test the paint in a small, inconspicuous area before completing a prominent repair.
This procedure is intended for cosmetic chips and fading. If the fountain is cracked, leaking, soft, or structurally damaged, address that problem before painting.
