Christy’s Red Hot Blue Glue is a PVC solvent cement used to connect compatible PVC pipe and fittings. For a strong connection, the pipe and fitting should be clean, properly fitted, and assembled while the cement is still wet.
How to apply Red Hot Blue Glue
- Turn off the pump.
Disconnect power and stop water from flowing through the plumbing. - Cut the PVC pipe square.
Make a straight cut and remove burrs or rough edges. - Clean the pipe and fitting.
Remove dirt, grease, moisture, algae, and other contaminants from the surfaces being joined. - Test-fit the connection.
Insert the pipe into the fitting to confirm that the parts fit correctly before applying cement. - Apply PVC primer when required.
Follow applicable plumbing requirements and the PVC manufacturer's instructions for primer use. - Apply Red Hot Blue Glue.
Apply an even coat of cement around the outside of the pipe and inside the fitting socket. Avoid excessive cement. - Assemble immediately.
Push the pipe fully into the fitting while the cement is wet. Give the pipe approximately a ¼ turn as it is inserted to help distribute the cement. - Hold the connection together.
Hold the pipe and fitting firmly for several seconds so the pipe does not push back out of the fitting. - Remove excess cement.
Wipe away excess Red Hot Blue Glue from around the outside of the joint. - Allow the joint to cure.
Do not immediately pressurize or place the connection back into service. Follow the cement manufacturer's recommended cure time based on pipe size, temperature, and installation conditions.
