Follow these steps to troubleshoot the Aquascape Quick-Connect Photocell with Timer (Item #84039).
Please note
- The Photocell with Digital Timer is only compatible with 12-volt low-voltage transformers.
- Do not connect it to a transformer rated higher than 60 watts.
- The unit is weatherproof but not submersible.
If the lights do not turn on
- Confirm the transformer is connected to a working power source.
- Make sure all Quick-Connect fittings are completely connected.
- Inspect the cords and connections for damage.
- Check whether artificial light from the house, landscape lights, streetlights, or another source is shining directly on the photocell.
- Confirm the connected lighting is within the transformer’s rated capacity.
If the lights turn on too early
Check the photocell location. Heavy shade, landscaping, or objects that block daylight can cause the photocell to detect dusk earlier than expected.
Move or reposition the photocell so it receives natural daylight without being obstructed.
If the lights do not turn on at dusk
Make sure the photocell is not exposed to artificial light after sunset. Nearby lighting can cause it to continue detecting light and prevent the connected lights from turning on.
If the lights turn off earlier than expected
Use the push button to verify the selected timer mode. The Photocell with Digital Timer can operate in these modes:
- Dusk to dawn
- Dusk plus 4 hours
- Dusk plus 6 hours
- Dusk plus 8 hours
If the lights consistently turn off after 4, 6, or 8 hours, the unit may be operating in a timed mode instead of dusk-to-dawn mode.
Check the lighting load
Add the wattage of every light connected to the transformer. Make sure the combined lighting load does not exceed the transformer’s rated capacity.
Check for voltage drop
Long cable runs can reduce the voltage reaching the lights.
- Position the Photocell with Digital Timer as close to the lighting system as practical.
- Check for unnecessarily long extension cables.
- Shorten the cable run where practical, and then test the system again.
