Water loss around a pond waterfall or stream is often caused by low liner edges, splashing water, or obstructions that redirect water outside the liner. Settling soil can also cause liner edges to become too low.
Check for low liner edges
- Look for wet mulch, gravel, or soil along the waterfall or stream.
- Check whether water is flowing over the liner edge, especially where the ground may have settled.
- If necessary, carefully lift the liner and add compacted soil underneath to raise the edge above the water level.
Check for splashing water
- Watch for water splashing outside the liner as it flows over waterfall rocks.
- Adjust rocks to direct the water back into the waterfall or stream.
Check for obstructions
- Remove leaves, debris, or excessive plant growth that may redirect water over the liner.
- Inspect the stream and BioFalls filter for obstructions that could cause water to overflow.
After making adjustments, refill the pond and monitor the water level to confirm the problem has been resolved.
