If your AquaSurge pond pump has reduced water flow or hums without pumping water, the impeller may be clogged, obstructed, or damaged. Inspecting and cleaning the impeller can help restore normal operation.
These instructions apply to AquaSurge 2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000 (G2) pond pumps.
How to inspect and clean the impeller
- Disconnect power. Unplug the pump before performing maintenance.
- Remove the pump. Disconnect the plumbing and remove the pump from the pond or filter.
- Remove the outer intake screen. Turn the locking knob counterclockwise and pull off the screen.
- Remove the inner intake screen. Unscrew the screen counterclockwise.
- Remove the water chamber cover to access the impeller rotor assembly.
- Inspect the impeller. Remove debris, string algae, or other obstructions. Check for broken or worn impeller blades.
- Clean mineral deposits. Use white vinegar or a non-abrasive calcium, lime, and rust remover with a soft sponge or brush.
- Reassemble the pump. Reinstall the water chamber cover and intake screens, ensuring all components are secure.
- Test the pump. Reconnect the plumbing, properly submerge the pump, and restore power.
Important: On AquaSurge 4000 and 5000 (G2) pumps, align the raised key on the impeller flange with the matching notch on the pump flange during reassembly.
Never operate the pump without its intake screens installed.
What if the pump still does not work?
If the pump continues to hum or produces reduced water flow:
- Check the pump and plumbing for remaining obstructions.
- Inspect the impeller blades for damage or excessive wear.
- Confirm the pump is receiving the correct electrical power.
If the impeller is damaged or the pump still does not operate, submit a request through the Aquascape Customer Care contact form.
