No. Standard roofing EPDM liner is not recommended for use in water features.
Although roofing EPDM and pond EPDM are made from similar rubber materials, there are important differences:
- Fish-safe certification: All EPDM liner sold by Aquascape has been tested and certified safe for fish and aquatic life. Standard roofing EPDM is not necessarily tested or certified for aquatic use.
- Chemical additives: Roofing EPDM may contain fire retardants or other additives that could be harmful to fish and aquatic plants.
- Intended use: Roofing EPDM is designed to waterproof buildings, while pond-grade EPDM is specifically manufactured for aquatic environments.
Aquascape recommends using certified fish-safe EPDM pond liner for all water features.
