Yes, two Aquascape SLD Pond Pumps may be installed in a Signature Series 1000 Skimmer, provided they physically fit and their combined water flow does not exceed the skimmer's maximum recommended capacity of 10,000 GPH (37,854 LPH).
The Signature Series 1000 Skimmer is designed to accommodate dual-pump installations and includes two plumbing outlets.
Which SLD pump combinations can I use?
Aquascape offers three standard SLD pumps and three adjustable-flow models.
Standard SLD pumps:
- SLD 5000: 5,952 GPH (22,531 LPH). Item #45066
- SLD 7000: 7,910 GPH (29,943 LPH). Item #45067
- SLD 9000: 10,291 GPH (38,956 LPH). Item #45068
Adjustable-flow SLD pumps:
- SLD 2000-5000: Maximum 5,952 GPH (22,531 LPH). Item #45046
- SLD 4000-7000: Maximum 7,910 GPH (29,943 LPH). Item #45036
- SLD 5000-9000: Maximum 10,291 GPH (38,956 LPH). Item #45037
Important: Every combination of two SLD pumps exceeds 10,000 GPH (37,854 LPH) when evaluated using the sum of their published maximum flow ratings.
For example, two SLD 5000 pumps have a combined maximum rated flow of 11,904 GPH (45,062 LPH). This exceeds the skimmer's recommended capacity.
Adjustable-flow models may allow two-pump operation within the skimmer's flow limit when their settings are reduced appropriately.
What should I consider before installing two pumps?
- Physical space: Both pumps, plumbing connections, and power cords must fit without obstructing the skimmer basket or filter mat.
- Combined water flow: The total flow from both pumps must remain within the skimmer's 10,000 GPH (37,854 LPH) limit.
- Adjustable pumps: Reduce the pump settings as necessary to keep the combined flow within the recommended capacity.
- Water level: Ensure both pumps remain adequately submerged during operation.
- Maintenance access: Leave sufficient space to remove and clean the pumps and skimmer components.
Actual operating flow depends on plumbing size, pipe length, fittings, and pumping height. Therefore, published maximum flow ratings do not necessarily represent actual installed flow.
Can I use two non-adjustable SLD pumps?
Two standard, non-adjustable SLD pumps are not recommended as a combination based on their published maximum flow ratings, because even the two smallest models exceed the skimmer's 10,000 GPH (37,854 LPH) capacity when their ratings are combined.
For dual-pump applications, adjustable-flow models provide greater flexibility for controlling total water movement.
If you are uncertain whether your pump combination is suitable, submit a request through the Aquascape Customer Care contact form before installation.
