How do I install an AquaBasin?

Install the AquaBasin® 30 (Item #78223) or 45 (Item #78224) in a level, compacted excavation, connect the fountain’s plumbing and pump, then cover the basin deck with gravel or river stones.

Install the AquaBasin

1. Choose and mark the location. Set the AquaBasin where you want it installed. Use brightly colored spray paint to trace around it and mark the area to excavate.
2. Excavate the hole. Dig within the marked outline to a depth about 1 in. (2.5 cm) deeper than the basin. This extra depth allows the basin to sit flush with the ground after gravel is added.
3. Prepare the base. Compact the soil with a tamper. Check the bottom of the excavation with a level from side to side and front to back. The base should be smooth, flat, and free of debris. If needed, add compactable material such as sand.
4. Set and level the basin. Place the AquaBasin in the excavation and check that it is level in both directions. If it is not level, remove it and adjust the excavation. Backfill the sides with sand or soil to help keep the basin from shifting.

5. Route the plumbing. For one fountain positioned in the center, route the plumbing through the basin’s pre-drilled center hole. For multiple fountain pieces, you may need to drill deck cylinders to route plumbing to each piece. Do not drill areas marked “DO NOT DRILL.”

   On the AquaBasin 45, place larger or heavier fountain pieces in the designated weight-bearing zone. Lighter fountains, gravel, and smaller rocks may be placed in the pump and plumbing zone.

6. Set up the fountain and pump. Carefully place the fountain pieces on the basin with the plumbing routed through the appropriate openings. Level each fountain from side to side and front to back to help prevent uneven water flow and splashing. Place the pump in the basin and connect the plumbing securely. If the plumbing connection is loose, use a hose clamp (not included) to secure it. Route the pump cord through the access panel and its built-in cord relief.
7. Conceal the basin. Spread gravel or river stones across the AquaBasin deck.
