Cleaning a Pondless Waterfall reservoir removes accumulated leaves, dirt, and organic debris to help maintain proper water circulation and waterfall performance.
How to clean the reservoir
- Turn off the waterfall pump and disconnect it from power.
- Remove surface debris. Clear leaves, dirt, and other debris from the gravel covering the reservoir.
- Install a cleanout pump. Place a cleanout pump inside the Pondless Waterfall Vault or reservoir basin.
- Drain the reservoir. Pump out the water until the reservoir is empty.
- Rinse the reservoir. Using a garden hose, rinse the gravel from the top down, allowing dirt and debris to wash into the basin.
- Remove dirty water. Continue rinsing and pumping out the debris-filled water until the water being removed is clear.
- Remove the cleanout pump and refill the reservoir with fresh water.
- Restart the waterfall. Restore power to the waterfall pump and confirm proper water flow.
Important: Do not operate the waterfall pump without sufficient water in the reservoir. Running the pump dry can cause damage.
How often should I clean the reservoir?
Clean the Pondless Waterfall reservoir whenever excessive debris or sediment accumulates. Inspect the reservoir periodically, especially after heavy leaf fall or storms.
