If your Aquascape color-changing pond lights are not turning on, changing colors, responding to commands, or pairing with the Smart Control App, begin by checking the transformer, Smart Control Hub, and electrical connections.
If the problem continues, test each light and splitter individually to help identify the component causing the problem.
Step 1: Check the transformer and power supply
- Verify that the electrical outlet has power.
- Make sure the ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) has not tripped.
- Confirm that the system is connected to a 12 V outdoor-rated transformer.
- Use a voltmeter set to the appropriate voltage setting to check the transformer's low-voltage output.
- Verify that the voltage supplied to the lights is within the manufacturer's specified operating range of 10.8–15 V.
- If the transformer has no output or the voltage is incorrect, have the transformer or power supply inspected and corrected before continuing.
Important: Never operate Aquascape color-changing lights outside their specified voltage range. Incorrect voltage can damage the lights.
Step 2: Check the Smart Control Hub
Aquascape color-changing lights require a Smart Control Hub to operate. The hub controls the lights and allows colors and settings to be adjusted.
- Verify that the Smart Control Hub is connected to the working transformer.
- Check that the hub is receiving power.
- Open the Aquascape Smart Control App and check whether the hub responds.
- If the hub is not responding, verify that it is properly paired with the app.
- If necessary, reset the hub and repeat the pairing process.
To reset and pair the Smart Control Hub:
- Press and hold the hub's pairing button for 10 seconds.
- Release the button when the indicator begins flashing rapidly.
- Follow the pairing instructions in the Aquascape Smart Control App.
- Ensure your mobile device has adequate Wi-Fi coverage and is using a supported 2.4 GHz network.
A blinking blue indicator means the hub is in pairing mode.
If the hub still fails to operate with a verified power supply, the hub may require further inspection or replacement.
Step 3: Test each color-changing light individually
If the transformer and Smart Control Hub are functioning, test the light fixtures individually.
- Disconnect power to the system.
- Disconnect any splitters and extension cables from the hub.
- Connect one color-changing light directly to the Smart Control Hub using its 5-pin quick-connect fitting.
- Restore power and attempt to turn on the light and change its color.
- Repeat this process for each light.
Results:
- The light works normally: The fixture operates when connected directly to the hub. Continue testing the remaining lights.
- One light does not work: If other lights operate on the same connection, the nonworking fixture or its attached cable may be defective.
- None of the lights work: Recheck the transformer, hub, and connections before determining which component requires replacement.
Step 4: Test the color-changing splitter
If the individual lights work when connected directly to the Smart Control Hub but fail when connected through a splitter, inspect the splitter and its connections.
- Disconnect power.
- Connect the splitter to the Smart Control Hub.
- Connect two or more previously tested, working lights to the splitter.
- Restore power and operate the lights.
- Test the splitter's available outlets using the working lights.
Results:
- All lights work: The splitter is functioning during the test.
- One outlet does not work: The affected splitter connection may be defective.
- None of the lights work: If those same lights operate directly from the hub, the splitter or its connection to the hub may be defective.
Step 5: Inspect the connectors and cables
Aquascape color-changing lights use 5-pin quick-connect fittings.
- Disconnect power before inspecting connections.
- Check for loose fittings, damaged cables, corrosion, or signs of moisture.
- Ensure the quick-connect fittings are fully tightened.
- Check any extension cables for damage or loose connections.
- Restore power and test the system again.
Important safety precautions:
- Do not submerge the quick-connect fittings. Water entering these connections can damage the lights.
- Do not cut or remove the factory quick-connect fittings or isolation chamber.
- Protect power cables from cuts, punctures, and abrasion.
- The Smart Control Hub is weather-resistant, not waterproof. Keep it elevated and protected from the elements.
If the lights will not turn off or the hub will not pair
If your color-changing lights remain on or do not respond to commands:
- Verify that the Smart Control Hub is properly paired.
- Confirm that the app is communicating with the hub.
- Check that the correct Wi-Fi network name and password were entered.
- Verify adequate 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi coverage.
- Reset and re-pair the hub if necessary.
If the problem continues
If the transformer, lights, splitter, and connections have been checked but the system still does not operate correctly, the affected component may require replacement.
