A decrease in waterfall flow is commonly caused by a clogged pump, dirty filter media, debris in the plumbing, or low water levels. Regular maintenance can help restore proper circulation and waterfall performance.
Common causes and solutions
- Clogged pump intake: Leaves, algae, and other debris can restrict water entering the pump. Disconnect the pump from power, remove debris, and clean the intake screen.
- Dirty or clogged impeller: Debris or mineral buildup inside the pump can reduce water flow. Disconnect power and inspect and clean the impeller according to the pump's instruction manual.
- Clogged filter media: Excessive debris in the BioFalls or waterfall filter can restrict water movement. Inspect and clean the filter mats as needed.
- Low water level: Evaporation or water loss can cause the pump to draw insufficient water. Check the water level in the pond, skimmer, or Pondless Waterfall reservoir and refill as needed.
- Blocked or restricted plumbing: Debris, kinks, or restrictions in the tubing can reduce water reaching the waterfall. Inspect accessible plumbing and remove any obstructions.
- Reduced pump setting: If using an adjustable-flow pump, verify that the flow setting has not been reduced.
What if the water flow is still slow?
If cleaning the pump, checking the filter, and inspecting the plumbing do not restore normal waterfall flow, the pump may have a worn or damaged impeller or another performance issue.
Inspect the pump according to its instruction manual. If additional assistance is needed, submit a request through the Aquascape Customer Care contact form.
Important: Always disconnect electrical power before removing, inspecting, or cleaning the pump.
