Aquascape pond and landscape lights may flicker, appear dim, operate intermittently, or stop working because of power supply problems, loose connections, moisture, corrosion, or damaged wiring.
How to troubleshoot the lights
- Check the power supply: Confirm that the lighting transformer is plugged into a working electrical outlet and that the GFCI has not tripped.
- Check the affected lights: Determine whether one light or multiple lights are malfunctioning. If only one light is affected, the problem may be isolated to that fixture or its connection.
- Test the light: If available, connect the affected light to a compatible, known-working connection to determine whether the fixture or its original connection is causing the problem.
- Check the transformer: Verify that the transformer is operating properly, the connected lighting load does not exceed its rated capacity, and any photocell or timer settings are correct.
- Disconnect power: Unplug the transformer before inspecting lighting connections.
- Inspect the connections: Check quick-connect fittings, splitters, and extension cables for loose connections, moisture, green or white corrosion, bent pins, cracked housings, or damaged wiring.
- Replace damaged components: Replace any connectors, splitters, extension cables, or light fixtures with damaged or corroded electrical connections.
- Reconnect and test: Secure all undamaged, compatible quick-connect fittings, restore power, and confirm that the lights operate normally.
Important: Never reconnect visibly damaged or corroded electrical components. Do not cut, splice, or modify electrical connections contrary to the manufacturer's instructions. Never attempt to repair a transformer's power cord or plug.
How to prevent damaged or corroded connections
- Ensure quick-connect fittings are fully seated and tightened to prevent moisture from entering.
- Keep lighting connections protected from unnecessary moisture exposure.
- Inspect connections periodically for corrosion, looseness, or damaged wiring.
- Replace damaged connectors rather than attempting temporary repairs.
What if the lights still do not work?
If the lights continue to malfunction after completing these steps, the issue may involve the fixture, transformer, excessive voltage drop from long cable runs, or another electrical component.
If the cause cannot be identified or corrected safely, have a qualified electrical professional inspect the system.
