If pond netting is frozen into the ice, do not pull or force it free. Leave the frozen portion in place until the ice naturally thaws.
- Remove loose leaves or debris only if they can be reached without pulling on the frozen net.
- Do not chop, hammer, or forcefully break the ice to release the netting. The shock can stress or harm pond fish.
- If fish remain in the pond, maintain an opening in the ice for gas exchange using a pond aerator or Pond De-Icer.
- Once the ice thaws, carefully remove the netting, clean it, allow it to dry, and store it.
For future winters, remove pond netting after the majority of fall leaves have dropped to help prevent it from becoming frozen into the pond.
