Black smoke usually indicates that the burner is not receiving the proper mixture of gas and air or that the flame is being obstructed.
Check the gas hose
Make sure the supply hose is not:
- Pinched
- Kinked
- Crushed
- Restricted
Check the burner
Inspect the burner ports for:
- Debris
- Dirt
- Decorative material blocking the flame
- Spider webs
- Insect nests
The flame should be able to rise naturally from the burner openings.
Check the venturi/air mixer
The venturi supplies air needed for proper combustion.
Inspect it for:
- Spider webs
- Insects
- Dirt
- Other obstructions
Clean the opening if necessary.
Important
Turn the fire feature off and allow it to cool completely before inspecting or cleaning the burner.
Do not operate the fire feature if it continues producing black smoke. Have the gas system inspected by a qualified gas professional.
