If an Aquascape Smart Pump Receiver shows Offline in the Aquascape Smart Control App, the issue is usually related to power, Wi-Fi connectivity, or communication with the receiver.
Common Causes
- Weak Wi-Fi signal at the pond or water feature
- Receiver is not connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network
- Router or internet service temporarily went offline
- Wi-Fi network name or password was changed
- Receiver temporarily lost power
- GFCI outlet has tripped
- Receiver is overheating from direct sunlight or poor ventilation
- Internal receiver protection has tripped because of an electrical or pump-related issue
How to Correct the Issue
1. Check Power
Make sure the receiver has power.
- Check the electrical outlet.
- Check and reset the GFCI if necessary.
- Verify that the receiver display or indicator lights are operating.
2. Check the Pump
Try operating the pump directly from the receiver.
If the pump operates normally but the app displays Offline, the issue is most likely related to Wi-Fi communication rather than the pump itself.
3. Check the Wi-Fi Signal
Aquascape Smart Control devices require a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection.
- Confirm that 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is available.
- Check Wi-Fi strength at the receiver location.
- Walls, landscaping, masonry, and distance from the router can weaken the signal.
- A Wi-Fi extender or additional access point may be needed for outdoor installations.
4. Power-Cycle the Receiver
Disconnect power to the receiver, reconnect it, and allow it to reconnect to the network.
Restarting the home's router may also help restore communication.
5. Check for a Tripped Receiver
Some Smart Pump Receivers include internal protection that can trip because of an electrical problem or pump fault.
If the receiver repeatedly trips, do not continue resetting it without determining the cause. Inspect the pump and electrical supply for problems.
6. Reset and Reconnect the Receiver
If the receiver still shows Offline, it may need to be reset and added back to the Aquascape Smart Control App.
On compatible Smart Pump Receivers:
- Disconnect and reconnect power.
- Turn the receiver off so the LCD screen is blank.
- Press and hold the + and – buttons for approximately 4 seconds.
- Release the buttons when the display illuminates and shows 8888.
- Open the Aquascape Smart Control App and reconnect the receiver.
Receiver Error Codes
E1 – High Input Voltage
The receiver is detecting input voltage above approximately 142 volts. Have the electrical supply inspected before continuing operation.
E2 – Receiver Overheating
The receiver is too hot. Protect it from direct intense sunlight and make sure it is installed in a shaded, well-ventilated location.
If the Receiver Continues Going Offline
Repeated offline conditions may indicate:
- Poor or inconsistent Wi-Fi coverage
- Router compatibility or network configuration issues
- Repeated GFCI trips
- Excessive heat
- Loose electrical connections
- Pump electrical problems
- Abnormal supply voltage
- A failing Smart Pump Receiver
If these troubleshooting steps do not correct the problem, contact Aquascape Technical Support or an Aquascape contractor for additional diagnosis.
Important: AquaSurge Adjustable Flow Pumps that use a Smart Control Receiver depend on the receiver for proper power conversion and control. The pump should not be connected directly to a standard electrical outlet as a substitute for the receiver.
