The UltraKlean Pond Filter uses mechanical, biological, and UV filtration to help keep pond water clear. If your pond water remains green, check the UV settings, bulb condition, quartz sleeve, filter cleanliness, and water flow.
Troubleshooting steps
- Set the UV timer to 24 hours. Use the "Select UV Time" button to run the UV clarifier continuously while treating green water.
- Check the UV indicator light. Confirm that the UV clarifying indicator shows the bulb is operating. If it does not turn on, check that the filter has power and the UV timer is selected.
-
Check the UV bulb's age. A UV bulb may still produce visible light after losing its effectiveness. Recommended replacement intervals are:
- 24-hour setting: After 12 months of continuous use.
- 12-hour setting: Up to 2 years.
- 6-hour setting: Up to 4 years.
Replacement bulbs:
- Inspect the quartz sleeve. Mineral deposits and debris can reduce UV effectiveness. Disconnect power to both the pump and filter before servicing. Clean the quartz sleeve with white vinegar or a non-abrasive calcium, lime, or rust remover using a soft brush or sponge, following the UltraKlean instruction manual.
- Backwash the filter. The UltraKlean should be backwashed approximately every two weeks, or more frequently if water flow decreases. Follow the cleaning procedure in the UltraKlean instruction manual.
-
Check water flow. Make sure the pump and plumbing are not clogged and that the flow is within the recommended range for your filter:
- UltraKlean 2000: 1,000–2,700 GPH (3,785–10,221 LPH).
- UltraKlean 3500: 2,000–5,200 GPH (7,570–19,684 LPH).
Once the green water clears, you can reduce UV operation to 12 or 6 hours daily. Increase the operating time if green water returns.
Note: The UltraKlean UV clarifier is designed to control suspended green-water algae, not string algae or algae growing on rocks and other pond surfaces.
