Reduced water flow through an Aquascape UltraKlean 2000 or UltraKlean 3500 Pond Filter may be caused by dirty filter media, a clogged pump, restricted plumbing, or undersized tubing.
Some reduction in flow is normal. According to Aquascape, pressurized filters can reduce pump flow by approximately 50%, even when new and clean.
Troubleshooting steps
- Backwash the filter. Debris may accumulate around the UltraKlean BioBalls and restrict water flow.
- Inspect the pond pump. Check the pump intake screen and impeller for debris or blockages. Clean as needed.
- Check the plumbing. Inspect the tubing for obstructions or restrictions.
- Check tubing size. Use the largest practical tubing diameter, up to 1½ in. (38 mm), to maximize water flow.
- Inspect the multi-hose adapters. If using larger tubing, remove unused smaller adapter sections to eliminate unnecessary flow restrictions.
- Check the filter valve. Confirm the valve is in the RUN position during normal operation.
If water flow remains low
If water flow does not improve after cleaning the filter and checking the pump and plumbing, further troubleshooting may be necessary.
