A UV clarifier is designed specifically to treat green water caused by single-celled algae, but not all water clarity issues are caused by this type of algae.
If your water is still dirty, it may be due to other factors that a UV clarifier does not address, such as:
- Debris or sediment suspended in the water
- Sludge buildup on the bottom of the pond
- String algae (filamentous algae) growing on rocks or surfaces
- Insufficient filtration or circulation
A UV clarifier improves water clarity by treating algae in the water column, but it does not remove physical particles or organic waste from the pond.
For best results, a UV clarifier should be used as part of a complete system that includes:
- Proper mechanical filtration to remove debris
- Biological filtration to break down waste
- Adequate water circulation
Identifying the type of water issue (green water vs. debris or buildup) is the first step in determining the correct solution.
