A UV clarifier is designed to treat green water caused by single-celled algae, but several factors can prevent it from working effectively:
- The flow rate is too high, reducing UV contact time
- The UV bulb is old or worn out
- The quartz sleeve is dirty, blocking UV light
- The unit is undersized for the pond volume
- The system has not been running long enough (can take 1–3 weeks)
If the issue is not single-celled algae (for example, debris or string algae), the UV clarifier will not resolve the problem.
