If your Aquascape UltraKlean 2000 or UltraKlean 3500 Pond Filter is not clearing green water, check the UV timer setting, UV bulb condition, quartz sleeve cleanliness, and water flow.
The UltraKlean UV clarifier targets suspended, single-celled algae responsible for green pond water.
Troubleshooting steps
- Set the UV timer to 24 hours. Continuous UV operation is recommended when treating green pond water.
- Verify UV operation. Confirm that the UV clarifying indicator shows the bulb is operating.
- Check the UV bulb's age. An aging bulb may still produce visible light but no longer clarify water effectively.
- Inspect the quartz sleeve. Mineral deposits or accumulated debris can reduce UV effectiveness.
- Clean the quartz sleeve if necessary. Use white vinegar or a non-abrasive calcium, lime, or rust remover with a soft brush or sponge. Disconnect power from both the pump and filter before servicing the UV assembly.
- Check water flow. Confirm that the pump and plumbing are not blocked and that adequate water is circulating through the filter.
UV bulb replacement intervals
Aquascape recommends replacing the UV bulb after the following operating periods:
- 24-hour setting: After 12 months of continuous operation.
- 12-hour setting: Up to 2 years of operation.
- 6-hour setting: Up to 4 years of operation.
Once green water clears, you can reduce UV operation to 12 or 6 hours daily. Increase the operating time if green water begins to return.
Note: UV clarification is designed to control suspended green-water algae, not algae growing on rocks, liner, or other pond surfaces.
