No. The Aquascape UltraKlean Pond Filter is designed to help control green water algae, but it will not eliminate all types of algae from your pond.
A small amount of algae is normal and is part of a healthy pond ecosystem. Unlike a swimming pool, which uses chemicals to keep the water sanitized, an ecosystem pond relies on a natural balance of plants, fish, beneficial bacteria, and other organisms to maintain healthy water conditions.
What types of algae will the UltraKlean control?
The UltraKlean uses a built-in UV clarifier to control green water algae, which consists of microscopic, single-celled algae suspended in the pond water.
As water passes through the UV chamber, ultraviolet light affects these algae cells, helping the filter remove them and improve water clarity.
What types of algae will it not control?
The UltraKlean UV clarifier is not designed to eliminate string algae or algae attached to surfaces, such as:
- Rocks and gravel
- Pond liner
- Waterfalls and streams
- Other underwater surfaces
These types of algae generally remain attached to surfaces rather than circulating through the UV chamber.
Is it normal to have algae in a healthy pond?
Yes! A small amount of algae is completely normal, even in a healthy, well-balanced pond.
Algae naturally grows on rocks and other underwater surfaces and plays a role in the pond's ecosystem. It provides food for certain aquatic organisms and contributes to the natural biological processes occurring in the pond.
The goal of an ecosystem pond is not to eliminate all algae, but to maintain a healthy balance where algae does not become excessive or interfere with the beauty and enjoyment of your pond.
If your pond water is clear but you notice a thin layer of algae on the rocks or liner, this is generally normal and does not necessarily indicate a filtration problem.
If algae becomes excessive, additional pond maintenance or algae-control measures may be needed. The UltraKlean filter alone is not designed to address all causes of algae growth.
