Regular cleaning of your Aquascape pond skimmer helps remove leaves, twigs, and other debris before they reach the pump. Keeping the debris basket or net clean helps maintain proper water circulation and prevents reduced water flow.
The following instructions apply to Aquascape Signature Series 200, 400, and 1000 Pond Skimmers.
How to clean your pond skimmer
Turn off the pond pump and disconnect it from its power source before performing maintenance.
Remove the skimmer lid to access the debris basket or net.
Remove the debris basket or net and empty any accumulated leaves, twigs, and other debris.
Rinse the basket or net with clean water if additional cleaning is needed.
Check the secondary filter, if equipped, and remove and rinse it when excessive debris has accumulated or waterfall flow has decreased.
Reinstall the filter components, ensuring they are correctly positioned.
Check the skimmer opening for obstructions and make sure the weir door can move freely.
Restore power to the pump and verify that water is flowing properly through the skimmer and waterfall.
Important: Never operate the pond pump when the skimmer water level is too low. If the weir door was closed during maintenance, reopen it before restarting the pump.
How often should I clean my pond skimmer?
Debris basket or net: Approximately every two weeks under normal conditions.
Spring and fall: Check and clean more frequently when leaves and other debris are accumulating.
Filter mat or optional brush cartridge: Clean when excessive debris is visible or waterfall flow decreases.
Check the debris basket or net periodically to determine how frequently your particular pond requires cleaning.
Cleaning differences between skimmer models
- Signature Series 200: Uses a removable debris net. An optional filter brush cartridge may also require periodic rinsing. This model does not include a standard filter mat.
- Signature Series 400: Uses a debris basket and filter mat. The weir door can be temporarily closed during maintenance.
- Signature Series 1000: Uses a debris basket and filter mat. The weir door can also be temporarily closed during maintenance.
Important: For the Signature Series 400 and 1000, always turn off the pump before closing the weir door. Reopen the weir door before restarting the pump to ensure proper water flow and prevent the pump from running dry.
