Aquascape recommends shutting down the IonGen System during winter in regions that experience cold temperatures. This helps prevent excessive copper accumulation when algae is no longer growing and extends the life of the IonGen Probe.
How to winterize the IonGen System
- Turn off the IonGen System when cold weather arrives and algae growth stops.
- Drain the plumbing if shutting down the water feature. Water left in the plumbing can freeze, potentially cracking the IonGen Flow Chamber.
- Protect the control panel from the elements to help extend its lifespan. The panel is weather-resistant, but additional protection is recommended.
Important: The IonGen Flow Chamber must be protected from freezing. Failure to drain the plumbing properly can damage the Flow Chamber and void the warranty.
Before restarting in spring
Inspect the IonGen Probe for debris, scale buildup, or excessive wear. Remove any scale buildup from the probe bars and replace the probe if it is worn.
