Yes. Excessive copper levels from the Aquascape IonGen System can harm fish and may contribute to signs of stress. However, fish stress can also result from other water quality problems.
If your fish appear stressed, check the following:
- Copper levels: Test the pond water and confirm copper concentrations are below 0.25 ppm (0.25 mg/L).
- Total alkalinity: Maintain alkalinity between 100–250 ppm (100–250 mg/L). Do not operate IonGen in a pond containing fish if alkalinity is below 100 ppm.
- IonGen setting: If copper levels are too high, reduce the ionization setting to level 1 or unplug the controller until copper levels decrease below 0.25 ppm.
If copper and alkalinity levels are within the recommended ranges but your fish continue showing signs of stress, other water quality or fish health issues may be responsible.
Important: Do not assume that IonGen is the cause of fish stress without checking water conditions.
